fork oil
« on: August 24, 2010, 01:30:30 AM »

Does anyone know definatively what weight fork oil is in an 06 Z750s? Opinion so far is divided, even at the Kawa dealership!!!

service manual says: "KAYABA KHL34-G10 or equivalent"

That translates to 10wt, for unmodified forks.  If you want to stiffen up the damping, use a heavier fork oil.

Fitted a hyperpro spring to the OE shock, pretty decent improvement in the ride......especially for £77!

Had an issue with the fork springs, bought some 'yacugar' springs from FTR............despite 4 e-mails pointing out I have the 'S' version and guarantees from FTR that they would fit................they didn,t. About 2" shorter than OE.
Fortuneatly my brother is a race mechanic and we fitted some additional spacers. Dropped in 15w fork oil, noticeable improvement in both handling and braking. Putting in the 457cc of oil as per the manual caused them to hydrolic....dropped it to 400cc and that seems to work well (goin to be a bit of personal choice re damping).

Overall a cheap fix that works well and well worth doing..............I think the only aftermarket fork springs that fit the S in the UK are the Hagon ones.

ahh....spelling mistake...........hydraulic.

Hydraulic lock occurs when a cylinder is filled with a liquid. The piston, trying to rise in the cylinder, contacts the liquid and cannot move.
(as explained by my bro)
